Dr. Frederick Andermann studies
epilepsy, its causes and treatment. He has delineated several epileptic
syndromes that stem from neuronal migration defects. A subject of great
interest is chronic encephalitis or Rasmussen's syndrome, a disease first
described at The Neuro. He is also studying behavioural changes such as
psychosis that occur in some people with epilepsy. This is an important
aspect of the management of epilepsy. Dr. Andermann continues as well to
develop new strategies for the surgical treatment of epilepsy. Increased
understanding of the causes of partial or focal epilepsy has come from the
application of advanced imaging techniques that were developed at The Neuro.
