Andrew Reader's research focuses on image
reconstruction, modelling and kinetic analysis for high-resolution positron
emission tomography (PET) of the brain. His research aims in particular to
advance the image reconstruction algorithms for the MNI's high-resolution PET
scanner (the HRRT). Significant improvements in image quality can be obtained
by i) respecting the original precision of the measured data, ii) more accurate
modelling of the physics of data acquisition and iii) careful accounting for
the ultimate purpose of the images. This ultimately results in functional
images of the brain with improved resolution and reduced noise, aiding research
into brain function and disease.
