Dr. Barry Bedell joined the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital in 2006 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University. He was the first recruit to accept a position as part of the Montreal Consortium for Brain Imaging Research (MCBIR, which is a partnership between the MNI, McGill University, the Douglas Hospital Research Centre and the Lady Davis Institute of the Jewish General Hospital.

Dr. Bedell holds a B.S. (Chemistry) from Lehigh University (1992) and a Ph.D. in Medical Physics (1996) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He obtained his M.D.C.M. from McGill University in 2001. While pursuing his medical degree and completing his residency in pathology, Dr. Bedell conducted research with Dr. Alan Evans and colleagues in the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre.

Dr. Bedell will lead the effort to develop the animal imaging research program in the new addition to the BIC in The Neuro's North Wing. His research program is developing an Integrated Technology Platform (ITP)that integrates MRI/PET imaging, histopathological, and molecular studies in animal models of Alzheimer's Disease, multiple sclerosis and brain tumours. As part of this multi-disciplinary research, Dr. Bedell has established a state-of-the-art experimental neuropathology facility that focuses on high-throughput production of quantitative data from tissue sections and seamlessly integrates with the animal imaging activities.
